  • Revolution of 1911 creates a Republic. Sun Yat Sen was a political idealist looking to unify China under a republic. After Yuan Shikai, who was named president, dies, the country was divided into two camps; Bejing in the North and Sun YatSen in the south.
  • Long March, 1934
  • Off to rebuild Communism!
  • Student led revolts were fueled by Nationalist and Communist ideas of re-unifying China.

  • The Nationalists and Communists capture Beijing and unify china by getting rid of warlords. Chiang Kai Shek, the leader of the Nationalists, killed 1000's of communists. Mao Zedong shows up as leader of the Communists.
  • Nationalists armies defeated communists in battle so Mao led his followers to rebuild communism in a safe area outside Nationalist control

  • Both sides agreed to resist Japan together. The Nationalists did most of the resisting and took the most beating while the communist army grew.
