  • At A Club
  • Blah Blah
  • Hakeem doesn't want to move to Detroit, he wants to stay in California with his friends and girlfriend. But he has no choice, his father has cancer and they can't afford to stay in their house anymore.
  • Living Room
  • "He didn't do anything wrong!"
  • "You need to leave my house!!"
  • Hakeem and his cousin, Savon, used to be close until Hakeem and his family moved to California. Savon feels as if Hakeem is going to take everything away from him, including family. So Savon stays out late in the middle of the night and the family doesn't know what he's up to but thinks that its no good.
  • The Lesson
  • One night, Hakeem follows Savon out in the middle of the night on Friday. Hakeem then learns that Savon wasn't doing anything bad, he was a rapper. Hakeem and Savon walks home together to find that the family was waiting in the living room for their arrival.
  • Recommendation
  • Hey Hakeem
  • Savon's father starts to yell at Savon and tells him that he can't stay in the house anymore. Hakeem sticks up for Savon and tells the family what's been going on with Savon. Savon's father then realizes and him and Savon makes up.
  • The author was trying to relate to teenagers now. Some people's parents don't understand their child's purpose when they change their actions. So the author was relating to a teenager's everyday life.
  • I would recommend this book because many people can relate to it. People can relate to sudden changes to new environments and people can relate when their parents don't understand them. So it's a good book selection.
