Storyboard Text

  • Come on! Mom says I have to take you to go pick up some materials for your project.
  • Ok. I was just rubbing my feet on our new carpet. It is so soft and fluffy! I wish I could sleep on it!
  • Ouch! The doorknob just shocked me! Why does this happen to me!
  • I know why. I will tell you, but first get in the car. We are running late.
  • When you rubbed your feet on the carpet, electrons from the carpet are moved onto you giving you a slight negative charge. Since our doorknob is metal, it is a good conductor which means that electrons can flow through it easily unlike insulators.
  • So tell me. Why did I get shocked?
  • Because of this, when you touch the doorknob, the electrons jump off of you and onto the doorknob unleashing a small shock which is what you felt.
