Men... the Confederacy has fallen!
Battle of Gettysburg
I thought we were gonna fight elsewhere!
After Atlanta, the Union soldiers marched to the Confederacy's capital. Jefferson Davis, the Confederate president, fled Richmond and told his men to burn the bridges into town. The Union soldiers marched in and took the capital. Davis surrendered at the Appomattox court house.
At the Battle of Gettysburg, the Confederates were supposed to restock and take down Harrisburg. Gettysburg was a stop they didn't expect to fight at. The Confederates though that they were going to resupply, but in actuallity the Union army, led by Joeseph Hooker, met them there and beat them.
President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. From January 1st, 1863 onward, all slaves from rebel (Southern) states were freed. However, since the South considered themselves their own country, they didn't abide by the Proclamation and instead ignored it and continued to use slave labor. Eventually, everyone concluded that slavery may or may not be bad and stopped using slave labor.
