We sharpen a stake and gather our courage. After making the cyclops drunk, we finally take action. Three of our best men heat it in the fire and attack.
Polyphemus runs around the cave trying to find us. So far, we have evaded death, but we don't have much time left.
Odysseus has been thinking. We hope and pray to the gods that he comes up with a good plan soon.
Odysseus decided that we can escape under the bellies of the rams as they are let out. Polyphemus feels over each of his sheep as they leave. Each of us prays we won't be the ones to be caught.
We watch anxiously from outside as the ram carrying Odysseus is stopped. We don't dare to breathe, for fear of being heard. We sit still, quietly, and worry for his life.
Polyphemus is unaware of our presence and releases Odysseus. We head towards the boat to quickly escape.
