Storyboard Text

  • At age 7 the boys would leave their families and go to a training camp until age 18. Then they would go to war until age 30.
  • Sparta was an ancient city-state in Greece. It was on the southern part of the Peloponnesus on the Balkan Peninsula.
  • People in the Acropolis could talk, trade, and shop. It was also the safe place for attacks.
  • Either kings or tyrants , 30 members of a senate, and 5 ephors ruled the city-states. Each city-state had thier own way of ruling.
  • The girls would stay at home and practice gymnastics so that they too would be strong. They would do cooking and business matters and raise strong children.
  • The Spartans didn't want other ideas and wanted to keep their own so they weren't allowed to travel.
