Storyboard Text

  • Hey Nate, I learned something really cool today at school. I learned that without plants humans and animals wouldn't get the oxygen they need to survive.
  • This is because of a chemical reaction called Photosynthesis which is a process that converts light energy from the sun into chemical energy.
  • That is pretty cool, tell me more!
  • The chemical energy is stored in sugars and other organic compounds, during this process sugar molecules such as glucose (ADP) gets converted into carbon dioxide and water (ATP)...this process is called Cellular Respiration.
  • Nate, make sure you don't confuse Photosynthesis with Chemosynthesis! Remember Photosynthesis is powered by sunlight while Chemosynthesis runs on chemical energy. It occurs around hydrothermal vents in the deep sea where sunlight is absent.
  • That is a lot of information to learn in one day!
  • That is a lot of information to learn in one day!
  • Well thanks! You see, when it rains the water "hits" the ground and evaporates (it converts from liquid to gas) and enters the atmosphere..again. Then is changed back into liquid by the process of condensation, this process forms clouds. The last step is Precipitation, which is when the water from the clouds falls in the form of rain, sleet, snow, hail, or freezing rain. There you have it, the water cycle in 3 easy steps!
  • You seem to know a lot about Biology, what's the deal with the water cycle? Where does rain come from?
  • It 's getting late, anything else you will like to know?
  • Sure, food chain: think about it as what eats what...it is a single path as animals eat each other. For example: Sun provides food for Grass Grass eaten by Grasshopper Grasshopper eaten by Frog Frog eaten by Snake and Snake eaten by Hawk.
  • Yes, can you explain the difference between a Food Chain and a Food Web?
  • The Food Web shows how plants & animals are dependent of each other by different paths.
