  • The old man is reading,  and nearly napping in his chamber. It was bleak December and midnight.
  • Climax
  • nevermore
  • He is so distraught by the loss of his love that it leads him to the brink of insanity. He appears throughout the poem to be with the raven, but in actuality, he is struggling within himself.
  • Falling Action
  • LEAVE!
  • As the narrator opens a shutter,  a raven flies in and perches on a bust of Pallas.
  • Resolution
  • After asking if he will see Lenore again,  the bird replies nevermore,  and the old man becomes mad.
  • The narrator,  angry at hearing the raven's reply,  yells at the raven to leave,  but the raven replies,  "Nevermore".
  • nevermore
  • The raven never leaves,  and the narrator's soul will never be whole again.
