  • For the Ancient Greeks, traveling by sea was very difficult. This is because sudden storms while at sea could be deadly!
  • Sailing on a Merchant Ship
  • Farming was also a challenge. Since the land was very rocky and there were many mountains, farmers raised sheep and goats since they are able to graze on mountains.

  • The end!
  • In ancient Greece, the people had begun to start colonies because of the lack of food. The first step in starting a colony was talking to the Oracle,  a person that is believed to be able to talk to the Gods.
  • The ancient Greeks also had to trade in order to acquire necessary materials. They would trade olive oil and pottery and receive timber and metal in return.  However, since the merchants had no compasses or charts, they would rely on the stars for navigation.
