Storyboard Text

  • Hey Janice! I know we haven't talked in awhile but I need your help with something because I know you are good at math
  • The meeting
  • I would be glad to help, what's the question?
  • The Question
  • I'm doing renovations on my house and I need to know if the angle of the top of the tree to the house so I can have someone see if that's a good angle for shade
  • Yeah, I will help, but I think I will need to see the logistics of the tree first
  • The Beginning
  • So this is a pretty tall tree. You will need to find the height of this tree and the distance of the top of the tree to the house
  •
  • Starting
  • When you find the height of the tree and the distance, you have just found the legs of a triangle, so then all you need is the hypotenuse because we need to find the hypotenuse of the triangle
  •
  • First steps
  • The hypotenuse will be c^2= a^2+b^2 and a & b will be the legs
  •
  • Drawn out
  • to find the angle of the top of the tree to the house you need to use the sin function
  •
  • The hypotenuse will be 42 feet when the math is done
  • Say the height of the tree is 40 ft and the distance of the tree to the house is 15 feet
  • to find the angle you must use sin-1 times the fraction you find from opposite over hypotenuse -So the math would be sin-1(15/42)= 20.9 degrees
  • sin is the opposite side value of the angle needed over the hypotenuse
