The Brahmins were seen as the highest ranking because they performed rituals for the gods. This gave the Brahmins great in once over the other varnas. People believed that Brahmin had Brahma, Siva, and Vishnu inside them.
Kshatriyas were rulers and warriors. They kept the village safe from the enemies. They also made sure if everyone followed the rules.
Vaisyas were farmers, craftspeople, and traders. They use to travel to different countries to bring back things. They didn't get a lot of respect as the Brahmin and Kshatriyas. But there were happy that they weren't the last class.
Sudras were the workers and servants. Worked for people as servants. They didn't get a lot of respect.
The Brahmin were on top of the cast system. Then came the Kshatriyas, after that Vaisyas, and finally The Sudras.
This caste system divided Indian society into groupsbased on a person’s birth, wealth, or occu-pation. At one time, some 3,000 separate castes existed in India. The caste to which a person belonged determined his or her place in society.
