Storyboard Text

  • The Call to Adventure
  •        "'Jonas has been selected to be our next Receiver of Memory."' (Lowry 76) 
  • Refusal of the Call
  • "No I don't. I can't." (Lowry 80)
  • The Beginning of the Adventure
  • "'I am going to transmit the memory of snow,"' (Lowry 100)
  • "...he lay there in the fearsome stench for hours, listened to the men and animals die, and learned what warfare meant." (Lowry 151)
  • Jonas was called to adventure when he was selected to be the Receiver of Memory. It calls him into a world he has never known before. 
  • The Road of Trials
  • Jonas panicked. In his mind he doubted himself and believed he could not do it, he did not have the strength, but then, he sees the people in the crowd change, and he understands that he can see Beyond and it his his purpose to become the Receiver of Memory.
  • The Experience with Unconditional Love
  • "'I loved her. I feel it for you, too,"' (Lowry 177)
  • Jonas begins his wonderful and horrific adventure as the Giver transmits him his first memory, the memory of snow, where Jonas is sledding downhill. Jonas begins his adventure on a thrilling ride loving every second as he sails through the crisp cold air.
  • The Giver Chapters 1-5
  • The Giver transmits the memory of war to Jonas. He sees a man die in front of him, and hears people dying everywhere around him. He hates the memory, and welcomes death as an easier alternative.
  • After getting transmitted the memory of love, The Giver tells Jonas he loves him. Jonas finds the only person capable of loving him. The Giver gives Jonas unconditional love.
