  • Lies and Deceit
  • I made a mistake and I still love you!
  • John, how could you do this to me!!!
  • Redemption
  • I will not confess! You will have to hang me!
  • I can't save you now!
  • John!!!
  • The girls dancing and singing in the woods causes a witch hysteria that sweeps over the town of Salem. People believe they are practicing witchcraft when Reverend Parris' daughter, Betty, falls into a deep sleep that she can't be waken up from.
  • Revenge
  • Elizabeth, your spirit stabbed me with a needle!!! How dare you
  • John Proctor has an affair with Abigail. Proctors wife, Elizabeth, eventually finds out and is angered by these lies. John confesses to this sin.
  • Greed
  • Listen to me Ruth, I need you to help me get more land. Can you accuse George Jacobs of witchcraft?
  • John Proctor did not confess because he wanted to be remembered as a strong man. Also, he didn't want to confess to be freed because of all the others that were hung for nothing before him. John sees this as a way to redeem himself for his sins
  • Reputation and Integrity
  • I was not loyal to my beautiful wife and committed the sin of lechery... this is why Abigail blamed my wife for witchcraft.
  • Abigail wants to get revenge on Elizabeth, John's wife, so she stabs herself with a long sowing needle. She then claims that it was Elizabeth's spirit that stabbed her. She accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft because she believed John would want her back and leave Elizabeth.
  • You are lying Abigail! You are trying to frame me so you can have my husband.
  • Looks like witchcraft to me.
  • Putnam's greed over takes him so convinces his daughter, Ruth, to accuse George Jacobs of witchcraft. He gets her to do this so after he is sent to jail or hung he can take over his land. He was willing to frame an innocent man in order to gain more land.
  • Of course father!
  • John Proctor gives up his good reputation to get his wife out of jail by confessing lechery. When John confesses it shows that Abigail did have motive to frame Elizabeth. This also makes Abigail look much more guilty because she is nowhere to be found at this time. This shows that John still loves his wife and would do anything for her.
  • I am innocent
  • Your excellency, this gives Abigail motive to stab herself and frame Elizabeth for witchcraft.
