  • Excerpt from the joy luck club
  • Keep your fist up, play this, and...
  • Jing-Mei's mother is from China and comes to America because of all the bad things that happened at China. She works for cleaning service. Her mom collect books or magazine's that have questions so she can test her daughter.
  • Im  confused
  • Jing-Mei's mother quizzes her. Her mother wants Jing-Mei to be a prodigy child. She wants her to be intelligent.
  •
  • Thank you so much but won't you guys miss it? The piano will stay here.
  • Take the piano. The piano will always be here if you ever change your mind to take it
  • Happy birthday!
  • Jing-Mei mother watches t.v and sees prodigy children and pianist. So she thinks that the easier thing Jing-Mei could do is being a pianist. Then she makes Jing-Mei get piano lessons by Mr.Chong. Since she doesn't have enough money she offers him free house cleaning services.
  •
  • Since Jing-Mei's mother brags about her daughter being a genius, she makes her preform at the talent show. When Jing-Mei starts playing she makes many mistakes throughout the song. Since Mr. Chong is deaf  doesn't notice that Jing-Mei is playing the wrong note, when she ends the song he is the only one  who is cheering for her, and no one else applauds. After that night no one spoke about that night since then.
  • After some years Jing-Mei turns 30. Her parents bring her a cake to celebrate. They also bring her presents and one of them is the piano she didn't use after all these years. At first she doesn't accept it because she tells her parents ''won't you miss it?'' her parents say that she should take it, but she doesn't.
  • Years pas by fast. Since her mother past away she goes to her parents house to sort out her mom's and dad's things. She keeps some of her mothers things like silk dresses, and some jewelry. After that she makes a choice of taking the piano with her. Every time she sees the piano she sees it as if it was a trophy she had won years before.
