  • Two Kinds

  • My daughter, Jing-mei, is very good at piano.
  • In the beginning of the story Jing-mei's mother is a chinese immigrant that came to the United States and had JIng-mei and her mother wants her to be a prodigy because in America she can be bt no in China.  At first she pushes her to be the Chinese Shirley Temple but that did not work so in this picture she wants her to be very smart.
  • 
  • After her trying to be a very smart child her mom wanted her be a famous piano player so, she hired Mr. Chong, who is deaf, to teach Jing-mei to play piano.  In return her mother cleans his house for lessons.

  • Jing-mei's mother wants her daughter's name to get out there she puts her in a talent show. In this picture she is boasting to her friends how good Jing-mei is at piano.

  • For your thirtieth birthday I want to give you the piano.
  • It is the night of the talent show and when Jing-mei goes on stage she feels good but when she gets into it a little more she messes up a lot.  Jing-mei's mother gets very mad t her and very embarrassed because she boasted to all of her friends how good hr daughter was.
  • Once they got home from the talent show Jing-mei's mother did not say a word on the way back to their house.  Once they got home Jing-mei wanted her mom to yell at her so she could yell back for all of her pain and misery but, her mom just walked back into her room and said nothing.
  • For Jing-mei's thirtieth birthday her mother and father gives her the gift of the piano that she played when she was nine. As much as she was happy her mom offered to give it to she said no.
