Rabbit challenged the Snake at upper side of the bend. If the Snake could pull Rabbit into the water, the Snake would win the contest. If Rabbit pulled the snake out of the water, Rabbit would win the contest.
Rabbit made the same deal with the Snake at the lower side of the bend.
Rabbit gave each Snake one end of the vine, tricking each of them into thinking that they were fighting against Rabbit. Rabbit begin laughing at the Snakes.
The snakes heard Rabbit laughing, and swam to meet each other. Angry that Rabbit had tricked them, they banished the Rabbit from his favorite drinking place.
From then on, Rabbit had to turn into a faun to drink from the river. He decided never to play a trick on the Snakes again.
