In 1325 Aztecs populated land in the southwest portion of lake Texcoco & named it Tenochtitlan, which is now Mexico city.
Religious events were held within temples. One main event that often occurred was human sacrifices. They did this to, hopefully, please the gods in return for great harvesting weather and good fortune.
The Aztec empire was a very wealthy/powerful empire. They were the central block of Mexico. In 1428CE Itzcoat came to power, he taxed each Aztec citizen and those taxes helped to conquer more land therefore making the Aztec empire more powerful.
In 1519 Herman Cortes was sent on a expedition to claim land and develop trade. They arrived on the coasts of Montezumas empire, and were gladly welcomed by the citizens. Inviting the Spanish into land of the Aztecs led to events that casued the Aztec empire to eventually fall.
