Scipio led a army against Carthage and was met in the field by Hannibal at Zama. the romans had 35 000 men while Carthage had 40 000 men and 80 elephants
Hannibal started by ordering his elephants to attack, but Scipio let his skirmishers attack them by funnelling them through gaps in the line, and blew horns to frighten the beasts causing some of them to charge back into Carthage's line
The two armies than attacked each other, Hannibal kept his 3rd and most experienced line in reserve
Hannibal's first two lines were defeated but not without a tough fight, once the first to lines had been defeated Hannibal moved his third line in Scipio merged his men into one line to face him
It was a bloody battle with neither side having an upper edge until the roman cavalry flanked the Carthaginian from behind and defeated them.
Scipio beat Hannibal, it was the only battle that Hannibal ever lost. Carthage then surrendered to Rome.
