  • Tom? Why is the ground so hot and there's a bulge in it right behind us?
  • Oh, nothing it is just because this is a dormant volcano.
  • What?! Volcanoes release ash and poisonous gases that tumble down the volcano as pyroclastic flows. We'll all be engulfed in it!
  • Relax Dave. This thing won't blow up. It's dormant. Now let me tell you a little more about volcanoes...
  • Rumble Rumble
  • Volcanic eruptions are caused when low dense magma or molten rock shoots through the earth's crust and pushes up through the ground as lava. Magma above ground is called lava
  • Uh,Tom? I think that we should really get out of here.
  • Those were at the middles of tectonic plates-the giant blobs of rock floating on the magma. At the edges, lava rockets through in between the plates and both types of volcanoes can be over land or water.
  • Rumble, Rumble, Rumble.
  • Rumble! Rumble! Rumble! Rumble!
  • Volcanoes then release their hot and poisonous gases that tumble down in pyroclastic flows. the lava goes everywhere and finally hardens into igneous rock which buries everything like entire cities such as Pompeii many years ago. It's ash travels around the world on windy currents and blocks the world from sunlight for months. This hurts and kills plants and animals and of course makes the world colder and darker for months.
  • Run for your life!
  • Next time I should listen to your volcanic warnings. Close one!
