Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy, the first of six children
In 1583, Galileo entered the University of Pisa to study medicine. While there he became fascinated with other subjects like mathematics and physics. Due to financial difficulties he left the university in 1585 before getting his degree
In 1600, Galileo met Marina Gamba and had three children out of wedlock. He never married her possibly due to financial worries and possibly fearing his children would harm his social status
in 1609, Galileo learned about a simple telescope built by Dutch eyeglass makers and developed his own
With his telescope Gallileo discovered Saturn's rings in 1610. Galileo described them as a pair of planets following Saturn's orbit. He also discovered Jupiter's revolving moons.
Galileo died near Florence, Italy, on January 8, 1642, after suffering a fever and heart palpitations.
