My name has always been difficult for people to get right. This is based on a number of experiences I have mashed together. I begin being cheery and understanding, and by the end feel defeated, resigned to the fact that for some people, they will never get my name right. Accepting being called something other than my actual name does impact on my identity.
Sorry, did you say LORRAINE? Lorraine SUNTAN?
No, sorry, I didn't say that very clearly, not Lorraine, LEHARNE. And it's FOUNTAIN not SUNTAN.
Oh so it's LEANNE MOUNTAIN?
No, not LEE-ANNNNNE, it's LEHARNE. LE-HAAAARNE. And it's F-F-FOUNTAIN! You know, like the tomato sauce... or water spurting!!!
The next time I try to order takeaway...
It's Lee F here, I'd like to order some fried rice... RICE, not MICE!!
