The US Dropped two Atomic bombs on Japan to end world war 2.
The Soviet Union felt threatened by this show of force and developed their own bomb.
Soon, each side was making hundreds of bombs.
To combat the ever growing Soviet threat the CDA developed safety procedures for students in the event of the bombs being used, this became known as Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover
"Bert the Turtle" was an animated character in safety movies.
In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed, ending the cold war and leaving the US as the sole superpower.
