About 800 of the pro-slavery settlers rode out to the city of Lawrence to arrest the leaders, but when they arrived at the city, the leaders had already fled the city.
The group pf the mens were so furious with what the anti-slavery government leaders did, that they took their anger out on the town. The set fires, looted buildings, and destroyed the printing presses used to print the anti-slavery newspaper. One man died in the attack and it became known as the Sack of Lawrence.
After the Sack of Lawrence, an abolitionist, named John Brown became more determined to fight against the pro-slavery government and for anti-slavery due to the harsh and cruel attack.
let us "fight fire with fire" and have us finally "strike terror in the hearts of the pro-slavery people."!
