  • Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain! Away to heaven, respective lenity And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now. (Shakespeare 3.1.127-129)
  • Scene 2
  • "Tybalt is dead and Romeo banished," That "banished," that one word "banished" Hath slain ten thousand Tybalts. (Shakespeare 3.2.123-125)
  • Act 3 reveals the devastating heartbreak of the star-crossed lovers. Emotions are poured out to effect the future.
  • Scene 3
  • O woeful sympathy! Piteous predicament! Even so lies she, Blubb'ring and weeping, weeping and blubb'ring.-- Stand up, stand up. Stand an you be a man. (Shakespeare 3.3.93-96)
  • In the town, Tybalt stabs and kills Mercutio, and Romeo tries to be a man by fighting Tybalt, killing him. This murder results in the banishment of Romeo by the Prince.
  • Scene 4
  • O' Thursday, tell her, She shall be married to this noble earl. (Shakespeare 3.4.23-24)
  • Just as Juliet prepares for a lovely night with her new husband, the nurse brings her the news of Tybalt's death and Romeo's banishment. At first she is outraged with Romeo but eventually just mourns over the sorrows that are to come.
  • Scene 5
  • Disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church o' Thursday, Or never after look me in the face. Speak not; reply not; do not answer me. (Shakespeare 3.5.166-169)
  • When Romeo visits the Friar, he is completely crushed and wants to die, despite the Friar saying he is lucky for banishment. The nurse comes and tells of Juliet's sadness and advises Romeo to be more manly. Romeo is then allowed to spend the night at Juliet's before going into exile.
  • Paris comes to the Capulet's to discuss marrying Juliet. Capulet agrees on Thursday as the marriage day and says Juliet will obey.
  • When Juliet gets the news of the planned wedding, she immediately refuses and her father is infuriated at her for this. The Nurse agrees that Juliet shoud just marry Paris and Juliet seeks help from the Friar.
