Before the Polynesians Easter Island was created by volcanic activity. This volcanic activity created lakes with fresh water from the craters of the extinct volcanoes.
Easter Island was very fertile with dense palm forests. The forests support only less than 50 types of plants. On Easter Island there few insects and two species of lizard.
The natives of Easter Island made stone statues called moai. These carved statues were massive in size. These moai statues were rolled across island on logs by natives.
The Polynesians used palm logs for building houses and fuel. The huge amount of use of palm forest has caused gradual deforestation on the island. With less trees soil began eroding.
Erosion caused less soil fertility so it was not suitable for growing of crops and also not suitabe for trees. This reduced the amount of resources making them scarce so many people on the island became cannibals.
The Polynesians are selling numerous food crops and many of them are working on the farms. Also, Polynesians have been using sand and stones to build the house's keeping the trees safe. Lastly, the Polynesians are working together to save the lizards so they do not become extinct.
