  • Beginning: I am not going to make it through the fight. I do not have a weapon End: I am a drummer boy and I am the heart of the army
  • Joby's thought in the story mainly consisted of how bad the war was and of how most of were not going to make it through the upcoming fight. "Me, I'm the one, I'm the one of all the rest won't die."
  • Feelings
  • Beginning: I doubt I will survive End: I am the heart of the army
  • The actions in the story was of Joby trying to hide in his tent to "hide" from the upcoming battle/war until The general went up to him where he took pity to Joby. "If he lay very still, when the dawn came up and the soldiers put on their bravery with their caps, perhaps they would not notice him lying small here, no more than a toy himself."
  • Dynamic character
  • Beginning: I am going to die End: I am not afraid
  • The words/dialogue of the story consisted of he was going to die but at the end he was not thinking about that and only thinking about how he was the heart of the Army.
  • Theme
  • I am not afraid and I will never give up
  • His feeling in the story were first of doubt but by the end of the story the General had given him a pep talk about how he is the heart of the army.
  • Joby was at first a doubtful child but by the end he understands that he cannot look at the bad side of everything so he changed to a person that was doubtful to a person that looks at the bright side of things.
  • The theme of the story is to  never give up and look at the bright side of things. It shows this in the story because at the beginning it shows Joby being the opposite of this but at the end he looks at the bright side of things and he never gave up.
