Storyboard Text

  •  Today we are here to talk about the articles of confederation. They are week because each state only had one vote and they could not come up with an agreement and need to be replaced.
  • Hi i'm  Edmund Randolph and i'm from Virginia and we think that representation should be based on population of the state have it be a bicameral system.
  • Hi i'm from New Jersey and my name is James Madison and we think all states should have equal representation and it be a unicameral system
  • we have come up with something called the great compromise that combines the two ideas
  • Neither party could come up with an agreement on which proposal would be ratified
  • The great compromise sets up a  bicameral Congress: the Senate had equal representation, and the House ofRepresentatives was based on  population.
  • I feel that slaves should count as part of the population
  • how about something called the 3/5 compromise say Edmund Randolph has 5 slaves each slave counts as 3/5 of a person so he would have 3 slaves counted can we agree on that.
  • I disagree slaves should not be counted in the population
  • I'm concerned that a stronger national government might attempt to regulate trade.
  • I promised that the federal government would never tax exports or attempt to regulate the international slave trade for at least 20 years.
  • Yes we can agree on that and we should call it the Commerce Compromise
  • we can add the the bill of rights to protect them. now is everyone happy with it.
  • now lets go ratify it
  • what is protecting our indvidual rights.
