Storyboard Text

  • Hi my name is Ali. I just arrived here in the United States of America. I left Syria because my family and I had to leave as soon as possible due to war. More than 500,00 people have been killed, infrastructure is being destroyed, and people are facing famine. We came here to seek humanitarian assistance but we are refugees, meaning that we are planning on going back to our motherland.

  • Hi! I come from a rural village in Afghanistan. My mother, 4 sisters and I came here to USA because we had to flee away from theTaliban and their strict laws. Women are not allowed to work, leave the village, or even wear clothes showing more than their eyes. Girls are not allowed to go to school and back home, my school got burned down because it was a girls school. We did not have any money, food, or even a place to live. We left so that my mother could get a job and for my sisters and I to get an education and so that we can live like normal girls with equal rights.
  • Oh wow that's interesting!
  • I also came here because the rest of my family and father lives here. It is called chain migration. When I used to live back in Afghanistan, my father used to send back remittances which is money that is sent from a foreign worker back to their family. Many families do the same thing.

  • Hi I am Imani and I come from the Central African Republic. My family and I left because my father does not have a job and neither does my mother. My brother has cancer and there is no health care back home for him. The living conditions are low and there are poor working conditions, lack of public services such as hospitals and schools, as well as poor infrastructure. About 67% of the population lives under a dollar a day

  • My name is Danilo and I come from the Philippines. We left due to the recent typhoon at my hometown. Our home got destroyed as well as my family's farm which was our only way of receiving money. Many people passed away as well as the livestocks. 86% of the population are exposed to natural hazards such as floods and typhoons and around 17 million people have been affected by storms since 1900-2016.
