I am sad that I have to leave my family behind.
My hands are sore.
This is Peter he lives on a fruit farm in Lachine where he picks fruit all day. Until one day the trees start to die and his family can not sell fruit any more to pay the bills so he signed on to be a voyageur to prevent his family from starving.
Peters hands are sore and bloody. The people in his canoe are nice to him. He wants to go home but knowns he must stay for the good of his family.
We are finally here.
Everyone agreed to not portage because it is a long and painful journey so they agreed to take on the unpredictable rapids instead. The twists and turns winding up and down the rapids were so crazy Peter could not think about anything besides trying not to tip over.

The big water so was harsh with all of its strong winds and waves that the crew decided to stay close to the shore. This way they could try to prevent water from getting in the canoe.
They finally made it to Grand Portage Peter is so happy he almost jumped out of the canoe.
Peter decided to head home to Lachine because he missed his family. He would for sure sign up next year to do it again though. This was a great trip for him and he was going to miss his life of paddling and signing with his canoe mates for hours everyday and laughing and talking every night. But he was going to head home and return next spring.
