  • More rights for the voters, so majority is happy.
  • Lower Canada
  • Give power to the French not English. French laws with a French representation.
  • Papineau: Democratic government where French majority voices English minority. Exiled to US after leading organized rallies. After exhile rallies slowed and he lost his followers.
  • Reformers
  • Howe: Representative government shows feelings of the voters and have equal rights to British subject. Not as violent as other reformers.
  • Mackenzie: Elected democratic government would benefit majority vote. Lead disorganized rallies in Upper Canada. Ran away to US
  • Upper Canada Rebellion
  • Governor made sure his favored party won majority of seats and appointed members of the Family Compact, but the Reform Party won majority, from support of Americans. American farmer's loyalty was questioned.

  • French majority wanted more say over the British minority. They wanted French people to make up the Chateau Clique, instead of rich English people. They also wanted the British to halt the emigration, because of the cholera epidemic.
