  • The Union had a much bigger army than the Confederates.
  • The Union was led by George B. McClellan and Ulysses S. Grant. Grant was a war veteran of the Mexican war and was the only "Good" general from the Union. 
  • The Union's plan for victory was the anaconda plan. The Goal was to encircle the South and barricade it off to the outside world.
  • The Union had a much bigger army than the Confederates.
  • The Union had the support of the African American population.
  • The North had a huge industrial economy which helped make the weapons and supplies for the North.
