Tsunamis can cross the Pacific Ocean in only one day! Tsunami means "Harbor Wave" in Japan

Tsunamis can travel as fast as 500 miles an hour which is as fast as a jet! Tsunamis can normally reach up to 100 feet but the biggest ever is 1720 feet which is taller than the Empire State building! When in a tsunami the best you can do is hold onto something floating.
When a tsunami gets close to shore it slows down but it also gains height and energy. Floods caused by tsunamis can be higher than 1,000 feet tall. 80% of the tsunamis come from the Pacific Ocean's "Ring of Fire"
