  • The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton saw that a strong central government was the key.
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • The Federalist wanted to have trade and alliance with Great Britain, however many did not agree since they had just went to war.

  • The Federalists thought that only the Upper Class should elect their government or should hold power in the government themselves.

  • The Jeffersonians, led by Thomas Jefferson believed in local or state governments. 
  • The Jeffersonians wanted to have an alliance with France, the problem was that the French were at war with Britain.
  • The Jeffersonians believed the common man such as a farmer should have the power to choose or elect their government.
