  • In New York Michael's father is killed and his mom left them. So he and his older brother Carlos, who is 17, have to live together without letting anyone know they are living without parents in an apartment.
  • Climax
  • Michael is the best player on his all-star baseball team, the Clippers. Meanwhile a foster care agency is investigating Michael and his brother because they don't have parents living with them. Justin who plays on the rival team and coaches from other teams don't believe Michael is 12. They demand to see his birth certificate which Michael doesn't have because it was left in Cuba when Michael came to New York with his brother and his dad.
  • Falling Action
  • During one of Michael's baseball games a girl shows up and watches him play. Her name is Lily and she and Michael become good friends. At the same time Michael needs to get someone to pretend to be his dad so the foster care agency doesn't find out about him living alone. He must get his birth certificate or he won't be able to play. 
  • Resolution
  • Michael finds out that Lily is a professional baseball player's daughter. Lily and Michael end up getting into a fight. Michael learns his brother Carlos lost his job a few weeks ago and now they don't have much money. Michael's best friend Manny gets his uncle to pretend to be Michael's dad so the foster care agency doesn't think Michael is living alone.
  • Michael gives an apology note to Lily's dad at one of his baseball games and he and Lily become friends again. Michael's baseball team is in the playoffs against Justin, the jerk's team, Westchester South Giants. They are one game away from the district finals.
  • Lily's dad helps Michael get his birth certificate. The foster care agency gets temporary custody of Michael and his brother until Carlos turns 18.  Michael goes to the district finals in the Yankee Stadium.
