Trading Places with a Voyageur
This storyboard does not have a description.
Today is a beginning; on this day every year I leave my beloved wife and two twin daughters. Their names are Betty(wife), Dianne, and Elianne. I am leaving to go on an adventure; I am a voyageur. I am leaving Lachine because I make a living to support our family and I want the best for my daughters.
We just left St. Anne Church, voyage ahead is going to be rough. I hope my donation will be enough. This year my brigade is a good group of men; we have a fantastic steersman. Everything is going good we have good rations of liquor and all the men are happy. My muscles are a little sore only because its the beginning of our trip. I miss my wife and daughters but I will see them soon.
We have encountered our first set of rapids, it has been raining like crazy and the portaging trails are mud and slippery. At this point in time getting hurt would be a major set back. The rapids are not the best choice but our steersman and our bowman the best of the best. We are going through the rapids, we have run into two rocks now bu not big ones. The waves are huge and are flooding the canoe. Right now all I can think about is making it for my family.

We are head on Lake Superior. Our brigade is hugging the shore line because the weather is getting bad. Sometimes it can be scary out on the big open water and other times the is nice and the scenery is beautiful. But today the storm clouds are rolling in and the waves are getting bigger by the minute. I hope it pass quick so we can make it to Grand Portage on time.
We finally reached Grand Portage. I got to meet up with old friends and feasted with them. The feasts consisted of bread, fish, pig, blueberries, and pies. We will celebrate for a week then we will leave and head back to Lachine or some will be wintering up north here. For now I will enjoy the great food and telling my adventures to old friends.
Now I have made my decision to go west into Minnesota for the winter. My fellow hivernants and I are off, this will be my first winter in western Minnesota. There are not many of us because most people think it is had to winter up here, but I would like to experience it for myself. I know I will miss my family but all I can picture is the beautiful winters up here.
