Storyboard Text

  • Hey, my name is Thomas Jefferson.  I just bought the western part of United States from France, and i would like to send explorers to discover this new land.
  • William Clark
  • May 14, 1804
  • Meriwether Lewis
  • may 1788
  • Sacagawea gave birth to her first child while she was guiding Lewis and Clark on their exploration.  She taught them about the different plants and animals.
  • A few years earlier a little indian girl was born far across the country near the Rocky Mountains, her parents named her Sacagawea.
  • Her people were  called Shoshone. They learned how to live off the land.
  • At 12 years old Sacagawea's village was attacked by other indians and she was kidnapped.  A few years later Sacagawea was sold to a trapper Charbonneau and later became his wife.
  • We are Lewis and Clark.  We are looking for someone who knows the land and the language of the natives.
  • Hi, I am Sacagawea. I know the land and the languages of the natives.
  • Sacagaweas Mother and son both were invaluable to the expedition. As hoped, Sacagawea’s services as a translator played a pivotal role in securing horses from the Shoshone.
  • Sacagawea was able to successfully guide Lewis & Clark to the Pacific Ocean, opening up a route for trade and travel.
