  • Today in class we will be learning about the British imperialism in China!
  • The Opium Wars
  • It started in the mid 1800's when Britain was not making any money from trading with China.
  • Britain began exporting opium from India to China and the actions of Chinese authorities against this trade infuriated British politicians.
  • The Opium wars
  • This conflict resulted in two wars between the two and unfortunately resulted in many hardships for China.
  • The opium wars weakened China and forced them to trade with other parts of the world. Business slowed down and the standards of living fell which left china in chaos.
