Storyboard Text

  • Hey! My name is Shirley and I would like to teach you about glaciers.  A glacier is a large ice sheet that covers relatively flat ground.
  • Wow! That is so cool!
  • One type of glacier is an alpine glacier. It flows downhill and ice accumulates at the top of it, then travels down existing valleys.
  • Tell me more!
  • Oh hey, I already knew that.
  • Ice caps are large glaciers that cover large mountain regions. Glaciers grow when snow fall exceeds melting.
  • I also knew that the cracks in the glacier are called crevasses. Also, bergschrund is a large crevasse at the top of the glacier.
  • Really? I did not know that.
  • I did hear though, that if a glacier melts then nearby town would flood.
  • Yeah, that makes sense since a glacier is just ice and it can melt.
  • The last thing I know about glaciers is that kettle lakes, moraines, erratics, and glacial tills can form from them.
  • Thank you so much for teaching me these interesting things about glaciers!  I learned a lot.
