Storyboard Text

  • Lords of the Sea
  • Storyboard by Jessica Cannon Period: Revolution
  •
  • The vikings attacked and plundered England for 60 years until they made an agreement with the people who lived there. If those people paid them, the vikings would not attack, and the vikings were able to gain much land.
  • Pay us, and we shall stop attacking you.
  • Okay, okay! We will! Anything to make you stop!
  • Instead of settling in England, some vikings went to a place they named Iceland. A viking named Erik Thorvaldsson was banished for killing two men, so he decided to travel to Greenland instead.
  • Well then, I shall travel to another land!
  • You are banished for your crime!
  • Looking for his family, a viking named Bjarni went to Greenland and told about a land he had seen. Erik's son, Leif, went out to search for it, and was amazed at what he found.
  • This is a wonderful place! Look at all these grapes!
  • Indeed! I shall call it Vinland!
  • Leif eventually returned to Greenland and told of his adventures. He couldn't return, for he learned that his father had died and he had to take over for Greenland, but his brother Thorvald went to see for himself.
  • It was so marvelous! Oh, you should've been there!
  • Is that so? Now I must see for myself!
  • The vikings in Vinland stumbled upon some natives, and began to attack them. The natives struck back, so they made an agreement with the vikings. But this agreement didn't last long, and the constant battling forced the vikings to leave.
  • We're getting out of here!
