  • In 1769, Daniel Boone, one of the first western explorers, went through a path in the Appalachian Mountains called, Warriors Path.
  • Our feet are hurting
  • Were starving
  • Don't worry, were almost there
  • It led to a gap in the mountains called, Cumberland Gap, and beyond that the gentle hills of the present day Kentucky.
  • We must explore this at once
  • It's beautiful
  • The land that was included in the Louisiana Purchase was very fertile farmland and is now known as the midwest region.
  • This is a great place to colonize

  • Soon enough people began to discover this new trail that lead to the west. Many people came to start a new life.
  • Hooray, we can finally get a new start!
  • I hope there is fertile land for my crops
  • People began colonizing the west and farming. As you know, the Louisiana Purchase included the breadbasket of the world.
  • More than 100,000 people traveled on this road from 1775 and 1790. Eventually, this road became the Cumberland or National Road in 1811.
