Miguel "couldn't tell her" about the letter (Jaramillo 6). This shows that Miguel is selfish at the beginning of the story.
Miguel From immature to mature
"Why Elena? and how? could you did you do all of this? (Jaramillo 22)."
Miguel blames Elena for getting them caught, and that also shows that he was selfish.
“We’d lost our bus tickets and all of our money” (Jaramillo 57). This quote shows Miguel is growing up because some time terrible thing helps you grow up and become stronger.
"We were hungry, but mostly we were dead tired" (Jaramillo 69). once again starving on top of a train will make you have to grow up because you have to help each other and keep watch.
"I couldn't get ride of the Mata Gente" (Jaramillo 57). because Miguel is scared from his experiences of the train it shows that he has become stronger.
Just after Moises gets shot "Javi, Elena, and I sat, unmoving, for many minutes"(Jaramillo 103). going through another traumatizing event such as this builds maturity because the characters have to go on with out a leader
"dispite everything she had done wrong she had won my admiration." At the beginning of the story Miguel wanted nothing to do with his sister, but now he admires her coming that he has changed and is growing up.
