The narrator wants to get revenge on Fortunato for insulting him many times.
The Narrator meets Fortunato at the carnival. He asks Fortunato to taste a wine that passes as Amontillado.
The narrator and Fortunato go into the catacombs to find the wine. The narrator gives him many chances to turn back but Fortunato is so self-conceded that he insists on going down.
Rest in piece.
The narrator and Fortunato reach the end of the catacombs. The narrator then chains a drunken Fortunato to a wall.
The narrator builds a wall and listens to Fortunato yell and kick for help.
The narrator leaves Fortunato to die and suffer. He also says,"Rest in peace."
