The British attack Baltimore Fort McHenry
Treaty of Ghent
On August 1814, the British took over Washington D.C. They set fire to several buildings including the presidents mansion. Dolly Madison was able to save historical documents.
The British didn't try to hold Washington, instead they sailed to Baltimore. During the night of September 13-14, a young attorney, Francis Scott Key watched as bombs burst over Mc Henry. Finally congress made Star Spangeled Banner in 1931.
After two years of fighting, British determined that the war was no longer worth their resources. On the Treaty of Ghent finally end the war. This showed that the their was no winner.
