  • The Assignment
  • Jerry Renault, you are officially assigned by the Vigils to refuse to sell any chocolates.
  • As president of The Vigils, I call this meeting to order.
  • Refusing the chocolates
  • Chocolate Sale: •Adamo - Yes •Beauvais - Yes •Crane - Yes •Renault - No
  • Adamo, Beauvais, Crane, will you take the chocolates and sell them for Trinity School?
  • Renault?
  • Yes, Brother Leon
  • Chocolate Sale: Sign up Here!
  • Blackmail
  • Funny thing about Renault, isn't it? He must be a very troubled boy to act this way... Well David, what do you think? Perhaps I shall reconsider this F, for no-one is without error and I may have been a little harsh...
  • F
  • Jerry Renault, a newbie at Trinity School for Boys has been given a task by the school's secret society - The Vigils - to refuse to sell any chocolates at the school sale. However, Jerry does not know the lengths to which the Deputy Head, Brother Leon, will go to ensure each boy sells his quota to make up for recent financial losses...
  • Rebellion
  • Chocolate Sale: •Adamo - 5 •Beauvais - 8 •Crane - 3 •Renault - 0
  • In a display of school spirit: Keep Selling the Chocolates!
  • The sale begins, and with every boy gladly accepting the chocolates all eyes are on Jerry as he steels himself, then replies "No" to the startled teacher. Despite a shocked hail of frantic persuasion from Leon to change his answer, he stands his ground by the order of The Vigils.
  • Plan B
  • Look, Archie, you told the kid to refuse the chocolates in the first place. That's what started all this stuff. But the kid went beyond that. He was supposed to start selling after the assignment was over. So now he's defying The Vigils. And didn't The Vigils promise Leon way back they'd back him in the sale?..
  • No.
  • Soon after, Leon seems troubled as he unveils Caroni's (an academic scholar) latest mark - an F. Desperate, he offers to "reconsider" the grade if Caroni can explain Renault's refusal. Shaken by the blackmail, Caroni reveals the assignment Renault was given by The Vigils.
  • Retaliation
  • I'm sure you know what it's all about Brother Leon, it's a Vigil stunt. He's supposed to refuse the chocolates for 10 school days, then accept them. Boy, those Vigils, they're really something!
  • We will see it done, Archie
  • After ten days, Leon again asks Jerry if he would accept the chocolates, grinning as he knows he will - his assignment ended. However, Renault continues to refuse the chocolates to the shock of everyone, in the process defying both his teachers and the order of The Vigils...
  • And you, Renault, will you now accept your 50 boxes of chocolates?
  • Adamo, Beauvais, Crane, how many boxes have you sold?
  • 5 Brother Leon! 8 Brother Leon! 3 Brother Leon!
  • NO!
  • Obie, secretary of The Vigils, and Archie Costello discuss how they must strike back against Renault's rebellion. Realising that The Vigils are in a delicate position, Archie decides to make an example of Jerry Renault, with the promise to help Leon in his sale looming.
  • Nobody defies The Vigils, Obie, and gets away with it. Let me worry about Leon and the boy, you just run your errands, Obie.
  • Addressing The Vigils, Archie explains that this rebellion must be crushed. Agreeing that making the chocolate sale popular would be the most efficient and easiest way to counter Renault, they now plan his destruction that will allow The Vigils to stay strong...
  • Vigils, we must strike back against the rebellion of one freshman. We can make selling the chocolates popular, and even make the boy pay for his refusal, but we must sell these boxes.
