Trade was hard for American's because the French siezed their ships when they tried to trade with Britan, a country they were at war with.
What will we do?
So, Pinckney, Gerry, and Marshall went to work it out, but for weeks they were ignored by the French
Three French agents, X, Y, and Z, said that the minister would hold a talk for a lot of money, and American's wanted to go to war. President Adams calmed everyone down, but people thought America should have gone to war.
Adam's wanted to stop trade with France altogether and passed the Alien and Sedition acts, making citizenship take longer, causing American economy to struggle.
The acts were either repealed or expired between 1800 and 1802. The economic situation was resolved, thank goodness.
Now, France is one of America's greatest allies!!!
