  • You owe us money if you want to settle this between us.  - x,y,z.
  • Once the Spanish were freed from the rule they were then able to trade with America.  Many people were for this but many European leaders were not happy about it.  The US and Great Britain told everyone to back off.
  • Results of the war
  • The Americans Won the War!!!!
  • War Hawks thought that  concerning Canada was such a great thing but it really wasn't.  in 1812, 1813, 1814 US tried to cross but got pushed back.  Then the US went into British territory and it was a major war but then got pushed back again.
  • Dealing with the pirates (piracy)
  • President Adams sent three people over to Britain to figure out what was going on between them.  They then met three people with the names of "x,y,z" and they said they wanted a very large amount of money for peace.  So then the Americans sent 10,000 troops on there new 12 ships to go invade the British's ships they capture 30 people.  The next question was what would Adams do.
  • Neither had won the war even though both sides claimed victory.  The treaty settled none of the problems between anything.  But the problems then just faded away and peace came.  Over time the Indians that fought with Tecumseh were pushed out of Ohio.  They also said that the war was the second war of independence.  It had political effects also with president Adams.
  • The British won!!!!
  • American ships faced many threats from North Africa.  The pirates always held random crews for ransom.  While the XYZ affair was going on the US was quietly sending money to the Barbary states.  Then Jefferson became president and they had already paid $2 million dollars so the leader of Tripoli demeaned more but there were problems.
