The FIGHT for Gender Equality
Carolyn Ridge started out as a copy editor for the GEN magazine. GEN. That stands for “Gender Equal News”. It was mostly a refreshing experience; Carolyn’s jobs was to read drafts of articles and edit them for grammar and sentence structure.
Pretty simple, and she got her fill of gratifying social education while she earned her buck. This job was really working out for her. Until...(yes, until)...
Why not ME?
She began to realize that some of the names featured in the articles belonged to people who weren’t widely known for being morally upstanding citizens. Somewhat the opposite, in fact.
Rita Powell, who was in the news a few years ago for beating her son was now talking about her belief in treating children equally as they grow up so as to prevent the gender roles that society has set unless the child chooses to follow them on their own. But no mention of her own child? Suspicious, to say the least.
GEN Magazine was being taken advantage of and someone needs to fix it. So, why not her? Maybe because she was a lowly copy editor. But that could change. With a bit of hard work and some sweet talking to the editor, and then she’d show those posers who’s boss.
