the tell-tale heart story

The narrator tries to proves his sanity by telling us how calmly he can tell his story of killing the man over his eye.
The narrator lives in the building with the old man who he loves so much but his eye disturbs him. He claims the eye looks like a vultures eye.
Over a period of eight days the narrator plots to rid the eye by killing the old man. Each night around 12 he comes in with a lantern and shines it until he sees the eye.
Finally one night the narrator enters the room and the old man awaken, groan, and the narrator then sees the eye. He hears the heartbeat loudly and thinks somebody might come suspect. So he pulled him to the floor and smuggled him with the bed.
Then police arrived because a neighbor said they heard a loud shriek. Then 3 police officers entered the home to search the premises. However, the narrator claims the old man is out of town and that he had screamed in his own dream.
He brings them in to sit right where he placed the old man's body under the boards. The police continued to chatter about things. However, the narrator believes he hears a ringing in his ears that continued to become more distinct. He thought that they heard the sound and was mocking him so he confessed to the deed.
