  • In ancient Rome when individuals get married they are to be married for life. There are no divorces allowed so Romans take great care in selecting a wife or husband. These people called Paterfamilias have a responsbilty for making sure all children made the right choice of that person.
  • In ancient Rome, they have a holiday called Lupercalia.  This is when they honore Venus the Goddess of love. Venus had a son named Cupid. His job was to spread love between couples. It was considered lucky to get married or engaged the day of they Lupercalia. Also Romans played match maker with the young people by having them pull names out of a hat to find their spouse.
  • In ancient Rome, they had a beginning of middle of winter they saw it as new cycle of growth. The middle of winter meant that soon the springs would come and everything would start growing back. Around  Decmber the 25th they would give gifts and decrated their homes with green.
