So is this one!!!
Oh no it's the door to the stairway is locked!!!
If I jump, my family will have a body to identify and bury, but if I stay in this room, there will be nothing left.
In the year 1911, March 25 the triangle fire started in the Asch building. In only the beginning of the fire 145 people had died in the matter of 18 minutes alone. No one really knows what started the fire or maybe even who started it. Most people died that day because the owners blocked the fire escape.
Some of the employees on the ninth floor tried going to the stairway to get, but when they got there they realized the doors to there chance to escape were locked. Whoever went to try and leave through the stairway never made it out alive.
As soon as the fire started people knew they were doomed. Whatever they did or wherever they went they knew they would die. By staying in just one room they would practically be suffocating themselves or they would be burned. If they jumped them would end up dead on the sidewalk. Many people believe that this was what was going through there head in their last moments of life,"If I jump my family will have a body to identify and bury, but if I stay in this room, there with be nothing left." That is what most people were most likely thinking during this time.
In the text it states,"A girl clung to a window frame until flames from the eight floor lapped in, burning her face and setting fire to her hair and clothing. She let go." I chose this because this felt t like if was an important part of the story because it shows how many people knew they weren't going to get out alive so they would rather have a quicker death of jumping out of the window instead of burning alive and waiting to die while the fire burns them.
The author just add this to keep the reader interested, but I felt like this was an important part of the story because maybe something like this could've actually happened. If this were to be really true it would show how he cared for her so much he knew that the best thing to do is just have a quicker death because it would just cause the girl he loved more pain rather then to have an instant death.
After everything firefighter finally calmed down the fire, but it was too lat by that time 145 people ha already died by the fire. There were only a few who were lucky enough to escape the building before it was too late. After the fire they inspected the building, but there was something odd the walls were in great shape and so was the floors later they found out that the entire building was fireproof. Everything that was inside the building though was burned to the ground. In the end the two owners went to jail for manslaughter because they didn't do anything to protect their employees from situations like these. For example one thing they did wrong is they locked the fire escapes.
